The irony of language: it’s a gorgeous word.
Say it out loud: language.
Say it for the sake of linguistics.
Say it for the sake of auld lang syne.
Say it for the sake of now,
celebrating it daily, hourly,
prefix, suffix, present participle,
all that was and is and still could be.
Let your words love on language,
dedicating sonnets and stories and whispers,
remembering that were it to be taken,
surely life would be cloistered, wear the habit of silence.
Listen hard, now. Write it down now.
See what you said? Now speak it loudly,
never letting it languish,
this promise, this possibility.
