Story Telling

And if you want to know why
I keep telling the story,
it is because
someone else
might have lived it,
someone else
might need to know
they are not alone,
and when we tell our stories
in all their unprotected truth—
no embellishment needed—
we free ourselves
from what we have been made
to carry on
the broken stems of our backs,
so some other season
we might actually flower again.
